Invisalign, unlike traditional braces, is more convenient when eating. Please explain.

Traditional braces, by design, are fixed onto the patient’s teeth. The patient is required to eat and drink and practically live with the braces for the full duration of the treatment. This can cause inconvenience to some patients, especially while they are eating or drinking. Patients are required to avoid eating very sticky foods or very hard foods that may cause damage to the braces.

Invisalign braces, on the other hand, eliminate this inconvenience entirely. These braces are easily removable. The patient is expected to remove them before eating or drinking. This not only helps to maintain oral hygiene, but also offers a lot of convenience to the patient while eating or drinking. The patient can enjoy food or drink as naturally as any other person. There is no feeling of a foreign body inside the mouth and no artificial interference with the chewing or swallowing process.

Even though it is recommended that the Invisalign braces be removed while eating, sometimes the patient may like to eat without removing them. This does not harm the braces in any significant way, and it is the patient’s choice whether to eat with or without the braces. In any case, the patient can remove the braces while cleaning the teeth and remove the food particles thoroughly.

With Invisalign braces, the patient has to take care not to eat very hard food items unless the braces have been removed. This is done to ensure that no damage is caused to the aligners. Furthermore, Invisalign are transparent aligners with a high aesthetic value. To maintain that status, the patient must avoid eating or drinking any such foods that may leave stains on the braces. Heavy drinkers of tea or coffee should take care to remove their aligners beforehand.

Correction of “Buck Teeth” (Overjet) with Invisalign
This college student came to us wanting to correct his “buck teeth.” He didn’t like the way his front teeth flared out. His treatment time was about 18 months and he was very satisfied with his new straight smile.
