How Quickly Will I Be Able To Complete My Cosmetic Dental Treatment?

The duration of cosmetic dental treatment varies from one procedure to another. It primarily depends upon the oral condition of the patient that warrants a particular kind of treatment that would be the best alternative in the given circumstances. The choice of treatment also depends upon the needs of the patient, his or her expectations and affordability in terms of time and cost.

The most common type of cosmetic dental problems includes the discoloration and staining of teeth, and uneven or misaligned teeth and jaws. The problem of discoloration and staining of the teeth can be generally overcome with the teeth whitening process or teeth bleaching. Here too, the patient has the option to choose a home based treatment or an in-office treatment at the dentist’s office. Both options are fairly simple, non-invasive, and requiring just one or two visits of the patient to the dentist’s office. For home based treatment, the patient can just spend a few minutes to place the custom-built trays in his or her mouth at night before sleep. Therefore, it is highly convenient and does not obstruct the normal day to day routine of the patient.

Braces are another common cosmetic dental treatment. They are a highly effective way to straighten crooked, uneven or misaligned teeth in a safe and non-invasive manner. Braces treatment can take up to a year or a little more. The braces must be custom-created for the patient, and requires a few visits to prepare the teeth, make the braces in the lab, and fit it on to the patient’s teeth. But this treatment has tremendous long-term benefits for the patient’s appearance, and no ill side effects for the patent’s oral health.

In cases where the patient has suffered a tooth loss or the loss of several teeth, it may require dental implant treatment which is the best option under most circumstances. Placing the dental implants and fabricating the crowns may consume some time, and require a few visits to the dentist’s office. But the time spent on this treatment is worth it because it is a fairly long-term solution, and the patient does not need to spend any more time on it once it is done.

For patients who are in a bigger hurry, or do not wish to undergo the hassle of braces or teeth whitening, may also consider dental veneers as a possible cosmetic solution to their problems. This is a swift and relatively maintenance-free alternative to many problems, such as discolored, stained or chipped teeth, or even crooked or uneven teeth to some extent.

Considering the great benefits and satisfaction that the patients get in most cases, cosmetic dental treatment is definitely worth the time spent on it.

Cosmetic Dentistry Case
Smile makeover that involved a gum lift, two implants and cosmetic crowns
The patient had severely worn teeth that were very short. Her front two teeth were not restorable and were ultimately lost, but replaced with implants. Her bite was then opened to a “height” that she could tolerate and with a smile that she was thrilled with.
