What is the lifespan of a 'same day crown?' Are they durable?

Cerec “same day crowns” offer an excellent solution for people who wish to minimize their visits to the dentist’s office. But many people tend to think that “same day crowns” may not be as effective or as long lasting as conventional crowns. However, the truth is that there is no difference between the durability of conventional crowns or “same day crowns.”

“Same day crowns” are made faster because of the computer aided technology that helps the dentist fabricate the crown quickly and with a high degree of accuracy. It has nothing to do with the quality of the crown. The durability of the crown depends on the quality of the material used for making it.

Patients prefer ceramic crowns because of the high aesthetic value of ceramic. But the fact remains that even the best qualities of ceramic cannot match up to the strength and resilience of gold. Gold crowns have always been the most durable crowns and no other material has been able to surpass that. However, ceramic technology is improving by the day and now there are much stronger qualities available in ceramic crowns.

The choice of the crown material ultimately depends on the patient. The dentist may advise patients on the pros and cons of different types of crowns to help them make a well informed decision. Many dentists have a strong preference for gold crowns because of its excellent durability and biocompatibility. But these crowns can be used only for the back teeth which are not visible to other people. For the front teeth, ceramic crowns are an ideal option because of their high aesthetic value.

This is a testimonial from a patient that was excited about getting a lot of dental work done in a single appointment. Much like many other people, he preferred not returning for more anesthesia or losing important and valuable time from his work and home life.
