Does Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique use high forces to move the teeth?
No. Actually Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique is a low force technique. Many people think we just “tighten” the braces like crazy to get the teeth moving. This would actually slow down tooth movement. To reiterate, the Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique is a low force technique.
Does Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique damage the teeth, roots, or gums in any way?
No, the causes for the above complications are individual biology and high forces over a long period of time. The Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique uses low force with a short treatment duration to safely move the teeth.
Are Powerprox Six Month Braces® more painful than regular braces?
No, the Powerprox Six Month Braces® Technique uses low forces to move the teeth not high forces that can cause pain.
Will Powerprox Six Month Braces® fix my teeth faster than Invisalign?
It depends on what type of movements we are trying to achieve. But in general, it tends to be a shorter treatment time with Powerprox Six Month Braces®.
Does it hurt?
Because the forces created by the wire are very light, the discomfort one might feel is far less than “traditional” braces. Usually the patient may feel some achiness the first couple of days.
Will my teeth really be straight in just 6 months?
This varies from case to case, but most of the cases we treat do fall into this time frame. For a case that may be too complex, we are happy to refer you to any of our trusted orthodontic specialists.
Do I have to wear a retainer?
With any type of orthodontic treatment, lifetime retainer wear is recommended. Teeth tend to shift no matter how straight they appear to be after treatment.
How do I floss with braces?
A floss threader can be used to floss individually between each tooth. Also, a Waterpik is highly recommended to remove any embedded food particles that the floss cannot reach.
How often do I have to get my braces “tightened?”
Unlike traditional braces, Powerprox Six Month Braces® are not tightened. Instead, you come in once a month for a wire change, usually to a slightly thicker wire. In some cases, you may wear the same wire for several months.
Can I still eat normally?
It is advised to eat foods in small pieces, rather than biting into food. This will prevent brackets from popping off. In addition, certain foods may stain(e.g. chicken soup, coffee) the brackets or the clear bands that go around each bracket. It is best to also avoid sticky foods and chewing gum.
What if a bracket pops off?
This can happen from time to time. Just call the office and stop in to have it rebonded.
Are the braces really visible?
Because we use clear brackets, the braces are less noticeable than traditional metal brackets.
How long are the appointments?
The bracket placement appointment is about 1 1/2-2 hours. After that, the follow-up visits will vary from 10-30 minutes.
